SYNOPSIS
From ‘Darfur Now’ writer/director Ted Braun comes a riveting docu-thriller following controversial hedge fund titan Bill Ackman as he puts a billion dollars on the line in his crusade to expose Herbalife as the largest pyramid scheme in history.
Herbalife claims Ackman is simply a market manipulator out to make a fortune from short-selling their stock, but Ackman insists Herbalife deliberately targets low-income and immigrant communities and robs them of their life savings. Herbalife is joined on the counterattack by longtime Ackman nemesis (and fellow Wall Street billionaire) Carl Icahn, while Ackman finds an unlikely ally in Chicago activist Julie Contreras, who rallies the Latino community to get the Federal government to intervene.
Blending tales of high-stakes corporate intrigue with working-class people caught in the crossfire, Braun paints a stirring picture of the American Dream gone wrong.
GRATUITY NOTE
Food and drink are available at Alamo Drafthouse, but food and drink purchase is not required to attend this screening. Those purchasing food and/or drink will have a 20% gratuity added to their bill to help cover the costs of this FREE screening for the public.

Horror Homecoming - Nightmare On Elm Street 2 Screening w/ Mark Patton
Be here Friday, July 24th for a special, big screen revival of a cult classic with the star of the film, Mark Patton in attendance co-hosted by the Film Society KC and the KC Horror Club. Just $7 for Film Society KC members!
Patton will be signing fan memorabilia and copies of Jessie’s Diary for the general public starting at 7:15pm in the Tivoli lobby.
During the audience Q&A at the screening will share news of the new documentary SCREAM, QUEEN: MY NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET which has just finished filming in New York.
Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge picks up where the first film left of. In true Horror sequel fashion, Freddy Krueger (scorned supernatural monster who kills teenagers in their dreams) is after a new group of teens, singling out Jesse (Patton) as his next chosen vessel for dream induced terror. The film has been noted as the most anticipated sequel in the horror film industry.
The sequel is best known for its homoerotic sub text, that Patton (who in turn, is gay) was in on, making for some of the most cringe worthy and giggle inducing scenes in horror film franchise history. Patton has made his legacy as the first gay horror film star.

Tivoli & Film Society Present Robert Altman's "Jimmy Dean" w/ Special Guest Mark Patton
The Friends of the Tivoli and the Film Society KC invite you to a big-screen showing of ROBERT ALTMAN'S "Come Back to the Five & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean" on July 23rd at 7PM.
Kansas City native Mark Patton, who was cast by legendary director Robert Altman in the pivotal, sole, male role in this inventive period drama, will be in attendance. Film Society KC President, Justin Gardner will join Patton offering introductory remarks and participating in the audience Q&A at both screenings.
The film concerns a group of women who reunite in their hometown of McCarthy, Texas in 1975 to hold a twenty-year reunion of their James Dean fan club. In 1955, they were an excited group of high school graduates who eagerly anticipated their hero's arrival in a nearby town to film GIANT. As the story unfolds, the friends--Mona (Sandy Dennis), Sissy (Cher), Stella Mae (Kathy Bates), Edna Louise (Marta Heflin), and Juanita (Sudie Bond) reminisce fondly about the past, but when a mysterious woman arrives (Karen Black), a series of shocking revelations threatens to ruin the reunion. The actresses imbue their characters with a tragic honesty that makes their eventual confessions all the more heartbreaking and poignant (notably, Dennis's troubled Mona).]
Altman, who directed the play both on and off Broadway before deciding to film it, employs visual dissolves, and mirrors to add a cinematic layering to the production. The result is a powerful, sobering portrait of a group of women who allowed deception to take control of their lives.
Click this link to RSVP on Facebook and find tickets, which are only $7 for Film Society KC members! Discount is only available at the door.
